Last Thursday, I rode my bike a short distance to visit a new business called "Green Spaces". Located in an older, loft-style industrial building on Flatbush Avenue near the Manhattan Bridge, Green Spaces seeks to help green entrepreneurs launch their ideas by providing desk space, meeting rooms, inspiration space (roof deck) Internet access and more. For a small rental fee, members can use Green Spaces as their first office, or as just a place to bounce their business ideas off of other green folks.
I received a tour from one of the founders, Jennie Nevin, and found the space to be pretty amazing. All of the furniture is 100% reused, castaways from old businesses, museums and department stores. There is a full kitchen, lots of big meeting tables, private desk space and a conference room. The idea kind of reminded me of the successful model set by the Brooklyn Writers Space, through which, for a fee, budding writers have a quiet place, away from home, to write their great American novels.
While 3r Living doesn't need any office space right now, we may consider using this space for future meetings (there really is no place to meet in our Brooklyn Store, that's for sure).
If you have an idea for a green business and you need a little space to work, I highly recommend Green Spaces. You can learn more by visiting their web site here.
You can see a few photos that I took during my visit here.
